Yachts and boats manufactured in Poland are highly appreciated all over the world, mainly due to the very high quality and innovation design. These features are often appreciated at the most important world competitions and fairs, where yachts from Polish shipyards regularly bring awards and distinctions.

The Polish Investment and Trade Agency - with the support of the Polish Chamber of Yacht Industry and Water Sports POLBAOT - organized a study visit for journalists and entrepreneurs from the USA and China. These two countries are particularly important for the Polish yacht industry: the USA is one of the largest recipients of Polish yachts, and the production of many well-known American brands is also carried out in Poland; Chinese market is still undiscovered for the Polish yacht entrepreneurs and has a huge import potential. In 2018, a similar visit took place for guests from the UAE and Russia.

Among this year's guests of the study visit were representatives of the most important Asian and American yacht press titles, environmental opinion leaders, as well as business representatives. The purpose of the visit was to present to foreign guests the potential of Poland related to the production of small ships and to help them establish business relations. During three days, the guests were presented with the ecosystem of the Polish yacht sector; the knowledge they gained was both theoretical and practical.

On the first day, the guests took part in boat tests. There were almost 20 units to choose from, both sailing and motor boats, professional boats, expedition boats, family boats, fishing boats, as well as classic boats - wooden and prototypes. The length of the hulls of the vessels ranged from 2.5 m to over 26 m. Such a large selection of vessels was aimed at presenting the entire spectrum of possibilities of Polish production. The guests also took part in the official opening of the Wind and Water Fair. At the time when the participants of the mission tested the units, a training on intercultural differences was conducted for Polish entrepreneurs by PAIH experts. Awareness of business realities, especially in contacts with contractors in culturally distant areas, is often decisive for the success of the transaction. In the evening, the first business talks with Polish entrepreneurs took place, as well as a business dinner during which the competition nominations were announced.

On the second day of the visit, presentations of shipyards - Galeon, Sunreef Yachts, Conrad Shipyard and Sail Service - took place. The guests were particularly impressed by the cruise on an 80 feet Sunreef sailing catamaran, preceded by a private meeting with Lech Wałęsa. Among other things, the former president answered the question why Poland is now such an important yachts manufacturer in the international arena. Also on that day, the group from the USA and China was welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Shipbuilding, Gdansk University of Technology, Professor Janusz Kozak, who, together with his colleagues, made a presentation and showed the guests around the R&D center of the department. On that day, there was also time to visit the Gdańsk Old Town.

On the third day, tests of the vessels took place again, as well as meetings with extraordinary figures of the sailing world, including Captain Joanna Pajkowska - the first Polish woman to sail around the world alone on a sailing yacht, without going to ports. Then a conference for Polish journalists was held, during which the strength of the Polish yacht sector, promotional mechanisms for yacht business and the offer of support for Polish entrepreneurs by the Polish Investment and Trade Agency was presented. The official closing of the mission took place on the museum tall ship "Dar Pomorza".

The programme of this year's study visit for journalists and entrepreneurs from the USA and China was designed to present the potential of the Polish yachting and boatbuilding industry in the broadest possible way and to explain the historical context - why Poland is such an important producer of yachts and boats. Modern shipyards, experienced management staff and employees, scientific background and support from the government agency are the most important and resilient - a cohesive ecosystem that has made a great impression on foreign guests. Study visits in addition to promoting the industry, thanks to its strength, also promote Poland as a modern, innovative and supportive country for its own entrepreneurs. These are image actions absolutely necessary in today's world, which will undoubtedly pay off in the near future.
